Most people don't expect to get injured when they visit a haunted house. Common injuries do occur and include tripping, falling, being struck by moving objects, being hit by props, running into something in the dark, and getting trampled due to panicked guests.

Some haunted houses are scarier than others, so there have been reports of heart attacks, accidental deaths, and other mishaps. Below are some of the most disturbing things that have happened at haunted houses:

  • A staff member nearly dies while being choked by a noose. Attendees thought it was part of the act until a co-worker rescued the woman.
  • Another staff member at a haunted attraction gave a knife to a girl in a group, who playfully stabbed a friend, thinking it was a prop.
  • A 16-year-old collapsed while going through a haunted attraction and was taken to the hospital, where she later died from a heart attack.
  • A 21-year-old man died when he was hit by a coffin prop that was part of a ride that required visitors to enter the attraction.
  • A man died of a heart attack after completing all three attractions as he was leaving the venue.
  • Attendees saw a body on the road in front of a haunted house and thought it was part of the show until a vehicle ran the woman over, killing her.

According to WOOD TV, a Nebraska woman visited a local haunted attraction in Kansas City, where visitors would jump from a second-story window onto an inflatable air pad. When the woman landed from the jump, she broke both of her ankles.

The woman is now suing the attraction, alleging the air pad didn't have enough air and was poorly positioned. Apparently, others have been injured attempting the same jump. The woman's attorney is seeking over $75,000 in damages, but winning the case may be difficult since she signed a waiver before entering the attraction.
