Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka said the band was aiming to deliver “more outlandish stuff” on its next album.

They began working on the follow-up to Anthem of the Peaceful Army in October, and plan to release it before the end of the year.

“There’s a little evolution, I suppose, with everything,” Kiszka told NME in a new interview. “We’re working on something quite different. It’s interesting, because we never exactly what an album is going to look like; it can only be so premeditated.”

Bassist Sam Kiska described the work-in-progress record as “the next step in the evolution of what we want to do,” leading Jake to respond, “Yeah, because now we have a little bit more leniency on the more outlandish stuff what we want to do.”

He added that asking, “What hasn’t been done and how many rules can you break?” was the place where “you really start creating something unique.”

Speaking in January, when he revealed that a new album was underway, Sam explained that Greta Van Fleet were "going places that we've never been before, literally and figuratively. … Touring the world, seeing Japan, seeing Australia, and having all these new experiences. … The colors of our mind get put into the record like that. This only skyrockets our creativity, because we get to see so many beautiful things that we've never seen before.”

The following month, Greta Van Fleet’s From the Fires won the Album of the Year Grammy, after the band had also been nominated in three additional categories.
