I remember being so pumped to learn that downtown GR would be getting its own burger joint started by actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg and their brother, chef Paul Wahlberg!

That said, I still have not seen one Wahlberg on the streets of Grand Rapids and I'm a little salty about that...

But I'm glad Grand Rapids Wahlburgers, which opened in fall of 2021, is still open! If you haven't been yet, here's a peek inside:

Apparently, the metro Detroit Wahlburgers has closed its doors!

The restaurant in Greektown on Monroe St. is marked "temporarily closed" on Google.... and the Grand Rapids location at 10 Ionia Ave. NW is the only Michigan location listed on the Wahlburgers website.

According to the Detroit Free Press, at one point, six Wahlburgers were planned for Michigan. The Detroit location was the first to open...

Here's a timeline of the other Wahlburgers in Michigan that once existed, but don't anymore:

  • Taylor  Wahlburgers opened in 2018, closed in early 2020
  • Royal Oak Wahlburgers opened in 2019, closed summer 2022
  • Flint Wahlburgers opened in 2019, closed late 2020

The first Wahlburgers opened in Massachusetts in 2011. The Wahlberg family and their restaurant chain were featured on the A&E show Wahlburgers, which aired from 2014 through 2019. Currently they have restaurants in 24 states, and also in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The burger chain serves - well, burgers of course, with a variety of toppings - but also, fries, tots, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and shakes. You can check out their full menu here.
