New Rom-Com Filmed in Grand Rapids Hits Streaming June 10
Grand Rapids is a pretty, picturesque city with a thriving film scene. From photography to filmmaking, the town offers plenty of great spots to film. The city has seen some pretty big movies filmed in it, notably in 2010 when a Bruce Willis and 50 Cent movie titled "Setup" filmed on Monroe Center and featured Madcap Coffee's glass windows getting blown out.

However, a recent romantic comedy titled Walter, Grace, & The Submarine was filmed entirely in Grand Rapids back in 2022. It has been generating significant buzz on the film festival circuit, and is now seeing a widespread release after being picked up by a distributor.
Meet the Cast and Director Behind the Film
Written and directed by Grand Rapids native Noah Bashore, Walter, Grace, and The Submarine is the story of two 20-somethings named Walter and Grace on very different paths. Grace is getting ready to leave town, while Walter is just arriving. Despite their limited time, the two form a strong bond while spending a weekend together

Bashore's directorial debut was produced in 2022 and 2023. It won a Best Actor award at the Grand Rapids Film Festival and has appeared at multiple film festivals since then. Now, Entertainment Squad has secured the distribution rights to the movie, which will be available on streaming services starting June 10th. The film has been praised for its script and take on modern dating.
How Grand Rapids Became a Movie Star
Personally, it always makes me feel a bit giddy when I see locations I know personally appear in any medium, but to have a trailer where Grand Rapids staples like Ionia's brick road, the mounds at Ah-Nab-Awen-Park, and the Blue Bridge and of course the Calder (which has a fun "what is this thing?" moment in the trailer). Whether you're a local or not, this movie appeals to many people.
