The Best Spots To Go Vinyl Record Shopping In Grand Rapids
My record player and I have a wonderful relationship. My ex got me it for Christmas one year and it continues to be the most important item in my house. I would not say my record collection is even slightly something to brag about, but I love listening to music on vinyl. It feels far more personal to me than just streaming something on Spotify.
Thankfully, there are plenty of spots around Grand Rapids to shop for records. Vintage shops, record shops, antique shops, and more are on every corner. So, whether you've been a fan of vinyl since before they were cool or recently started, here are some of the best spots to purchase them.
Vertigo Records
Located in Downtown Grand Rapids, Vertigo Records has over 25,000 LPs past to present including vinyl, CDs, and cassettes. Or, if you've got records you're looking to sell, they buy used as well. If that doesn't do it for you, they're also pet-friendly.
Corner Record Shop
The Corner Record Shop has a wide range of records from wall to ceiling. It is noted for having records you may not find at other spots. It recently moved to a new location on 28th St. in Oakestown Mall.
Vinyl Alchemy
Located on Wealthy, Vinyl Alchemy is a smaller spot that has a lot of popular records, but then also has some pretty obscure ones (I found Mort Gartsen's Mother Earth Plantasia there which was so random but so exciting). Plus, if you're hungry, it's connected to Yesterdog. A win-win.
Black Dog Books & Records
Just opening in April, Black Dog Book & Records is a combination bookstore and record store. It hasn't been around long, but it offers buying, selling, and trading and has established itself as a spot for a must-stop.
Quality Vintage Collectables
Anyone who has stepped inside an antique shop knows that there are usually quite a few old records in there, so a record shop inside an antique store is a best-of-both-worlds situation. They also offer buying and selling of records.
Della Soul Records
Della Soul Records' story is as awesome as their inventory. DJ Della Soul opened this record store last year at the age of 48 and has worked to make this store more than just a store, but a place of community. The aesthetic is welcoming, Della Soul hosts events and even received a visit from VP Kamala Harris.
If there are more record shops you frequent that should be highlighted, feel free to let us know.
