Coffee lovers are being asked to weigh in on their favorites in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Independent Coffee Shop in America. A panel of experts has chosen 20 stellar coffee joints from around the country, and now it's up to a public vote—one Grand Rapids gem is up for the honor!
Madcap Coffee is competing to be the best in the nation. It was founded right here in Grand Rapids in 2008, opening up its flagship café at 98 Monroe Center St. NW. Since then, it's expanded with another café and roastery in GR, located at 1041 Fulton Street. There are also Madcap locations in Detroit and Leland.

Known for their in-house roasted beans and bright, intricate flavors, Madcap has something for casual sippers and serious coffee enthusiasts alike. From seasonal signature lattes to a top-notch espresso program, their drinks are a work of art—approachable, inventive, and delicious.

One of the seasonal drinks offered right now feels very inspired by the company's roots in West Michigan. The Dutch Bingo is an espresso-based drink with orgeat and steamed oat milk, served in a cortado glass rimmed with almond syrup and cinnamon, and accompanied with a windmill cookie. A seasonal coffee currently on the menu is Harvest Moon, with tasting notes of caramel apple, orange peel, and milk chocolate—yum!
