Even though Metallica were formed in California they have several connections to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Now a member's nephew owns a record store in the city.

Metallica doesn't just have a big show but also has big hearts and likes to give back to communities as a thank-you for all the years of supporting the band.

Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation assists Grand Rapids Community College to help more non-traditional students gain in-demand welding skills that lead to rewarding careers. Metallica donates to the college and students receive life-changing grants.

Metallica partners with the company Wolverine and work together to support the next generation of skilled workers. For the 5th year, Wolverine and Metallica Scholars have teamed up for a line of products with 50% of sales going to the program, which is huge.

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted is from Battle Creek, Michigan, and has several family members living in the state.

One of those family members is Ben Newsted who opened the newest record store in Grand Rapids called Boomtown Records. They are located at 1809 Plainfield Avenue NE.
