Late last month, Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta and Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry had a social media back-and-forth when Jasta took exception to Chvrches' placement on the Dia de los Deftones festival ahead of Gojira, feeling that the metal titans should have received second billing for the eclectic event. But it looks as though Gojira seem to have no issue with Chvrches, as Mayberry revealed that the band recently sent them a care package after the incident made headlines.

Jasta argued that metal needed to be shown more respect and that the placement of a non-heavy band between Deftones and Gojira would not go well for them. He also called the billing "a power move" by the band's agent. Meanwhile, Mayberry responded by stating that Deftones curated the lineup and that she thought it was important to promote the idea of building a diverse community instead of being restricted by genre.

Speaking with NME about the incident, Mayberry discussed the debate and the mostly positive returns from her response, stating, “I thought it was really cool because it just showed that kind of thinking in the metal community isn’t stood for any more. And Gojira actually sent us a merch package so we got a crap tonne of Gojira t-shirts. That was really nice. It reflects the community and informs the community."

She went on to add, "I just didn’t understand. I was like, ‘That’s not what Deftones has ever been about.'" The vocalist also revealed she nearly got a tattoo inspired by the band's White Pony album in her younger days.

Bandmate Martin Doherty adds, “Who cares really? I mean, that guy. We’re living in different universes. What’s even the point in taking a swipe like that? I’ve been listening to Deftones since 1998 and they were always an alternative metal band. I wasn’t a huge metal fan but I was a massive Deftones fan. I think that anyone who’s narrow-minded like that totally misses the point of the band, as far as I can see.”

Chvrches and Gojira will co-exist, serving as the main support to Deftones on a day full of music. Dia de los Deftones will take place Nov. 2 at San Diego's Petco Park.
