Home Fire Alarms
I'm old enough to remember when most homes didn't have a fire alarm or smoke detector.

I remember my dad installing a smoke detector at our house. When I was in elementary school, many of my friend's dads were installing fire alarms to protect their families from a fire.
Now that I have my own house I have six fire alarms. With six fire alarms, sometimes it's tough to tell which one is beeping when it needs a new battery but I am glad I have them.
It is scary to think that some families do not have fire protection especially when the worst happens. A service in Michigan is helping families who do not have a fire detector get one for free.

How Michiganders Can Get a Free Fire Alarm for Their Home
Michigan has a government service called MI Prevention. Its goal is to provide sustainable community risk reduction to minimize fire deaths, injuries, and property loss.
Over 600 Michigan fire departments are involved in the MI Prevention program.
Michigan fire departments are not handing out fire alarms for individuals to install. A family must request one and your local fire department will install the unit. Simply, contact your local fire department and make the request. If your local fire department is not part of the program email LARA-miprevention@michigan.gov and they will have someone contact you to find a solution.
According to FOX 17, the Plainfield Township Fire Department is part of the MI Prevention program and has installed free fire alarms for the last two years. The fire department makes sure the alarms are in the right locations.
