Before kids had plenty of things to entertain them in the car or GPS made getting anywhere a breeze, people would actually pay attention to the street signs and could get to their destinations from memory. I have friends these days who can't get anywhere without putting it in their phone first.

Which is a dang shame because some street signs around Grand Rapids have some pretty funny or sweet names that don't get the love they deserve. That's why we're highlighting some of the street names around the city that bring joy to locals today.

Grand Rapids' Best Street Names

I was driving around town with a friend of mine, and we drove past one of my favorite streets in Grand Rapids, mainly because I used to be a huge fan of Lil Nas XHis hit song "Old Town Road" was inescapable in 2019, so it fills me with genuine joy whenever I pass by Old Town Road on Kalamazoo Avenue.

My friend revealed that her favorite street name is Menominee Drive because "it's fun to say". She didn't know the word was about the fish or the Native American tribe, but she is right about the enjoyment of the word.
