Excessive Heat Warning Goes Into Effect Today At Noon

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for much of southern Michigan starting today at noon.

The Excessive Heat Warning will last from Thursday, July 18th @ 12 pm through Saturday, July 20th @ 8 pm.  Temperatures will be in the mid 90s for most days and the heat indices will approach 100 degrees today and exceed 105 degrees Friday and Saturday.  Evening temperatures will drop to the 70s but high humidity will still make for an uncomfortable night.

Here are some precautionary and preparedness actions recommended by Weather.gov:

• Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
• To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air Conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
