Elmdale A Street, Road, Or Avenue In Grand Rapids?

Road names can be tricky, especially when you're unfamiliar with a town but Elmdale in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is not sure if it's a road, street, or avenue.

What the Heck is the Name of This Road?

Have you ever driven down a road and not changed roads but the name of the road has changed? When I am somewhere I have never been looking for something I'm not a fan of that.

I used to live in Indiana and when I first moved to South Bend, I would be driving a short distance on a street, and then the name of it would change 2 or three times and I didn't even cross county lines. This was before cellphone GPS but it was still irritating when moving to a new town. I never ran into a road, street, or avenue with the same name until moving to Grand Rapids.

Elmdale A Street, Road, Or Avenue In Grand Rapids?

If you travel anywhere near Elmdale Street NE in Grand Rapids you may notice different signs that point toward the road like Elmdale Road.

The sign marking Elmdale in this picture above is on the street but says it's an avenue.

The street sign above refers to Elmdale NE and doesn't even say if it is a street, road, or avenue.

Where Elmdale and Plainfield Avenue NE cross it is known as Elmdale Street NE. This would confuse the heck out of someone who didn't live in the area who was looking for something or someone.

I did some investigative work on Google Maps and looked for Elmdale NE, Elmdale Avenue NE, Eldmale Road, and Elmdale Street NE. As you can see from the map above the proper name is Elmdale Street NE. Every time I searched the names above that is what came up. Whoever makes the signs may want to get them all to match but probably won't change them until they get old or someone runs them over which I don't recommend.
