Tesla Motors is a company I've been watching for a few years now, since they launched their all-electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster. They've since released their S model sedan, have a crossover planned for release, and have also announced a battery for your house to help get you off the grid!

Now, Tesla has purchased Grand Rapids based Riviera Tool, which makes stamping parts. They'll still be doing their regular business, but will now be supplying Tesla with parts, and will be renamed Tesla Tool and Die, eventually.

These are not the crappy 'only goes 40 miles at 25mph' kinds of electric cars that the big names are putting out, these cars are fast, and will drive upwards of 300 miles on a charge!

That brings what's probably the most forward-thinking company in renewable energy into Michigan, and more importantly, into our own town of Grand Rapids!

The next step, which can't happen yet, would be a plant, and a store here in Michigan. The store won't happen soon, since the governor signed a bill prohibiting Tesla from selling directly to people in Michigan, like they do in other states. If you want one, you have to go to Chicago.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk isn't ruling out building a plant here, though:

"It's not out of the question. Maybe Michigan shouldn't stop us from selling cars here. That would be a nice gesture," he said to laughter, at the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit.
