Does driving on US-131 in Grand Rapids stress you out or cause you anxiety? Do you find there to be too much traffic? Don't resort to road rage! Instead, let the state know how you feel.

MDOT is looking for people to give their feedback and help the state identify "issues" and "needs" on US-131 in Grand Rapids and Wyoming. The portion between 28th street and the S-Curve (Market Ave.) was selected to be a part of the Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study.

The PEL process represents a collaborative and integrated approach to transportation decision-making that considers environmental, community, and economic goals, as well as traffic issues...

The PEL Study is instrumental in the early stages of planning for major future transportation projects.

The online survey is Phase 1 of the US-131 project. The freeway was chosen based on comments MDOT had received from the public and stakeholders. The survey is now open and available through February 8, 2021. Questions you'll answer on will involve traffic, safety, infrastructure etc.

The infamous 100th Street overpass is an example of what was prioritized for a PEL study. In 2018 the bridge became known for getting hit 13 times before it was decided that it would be getting an upgrade. The US-131/100th Street interchange just reopened a couple months ago.

You're encouraged to take the survey that way the state knows what to address. Essentially it affects you too if 131 is a part of your daily commute.

According to MDOT,

US-131 through Grand Rapids and Wyoming is the busiest freeway corridor in Michigan outside of Metro Detroit.

The road between 28th Street and the S-curve was originally built in 1960.
