The Last Time The Detroit Lions Played This Well Was The 1962 Season

The Detroit Lion's helmets and uniforms looked a lot different back in 1962, and they played fewer games, but the one thing today's team and that team had in common is how well they are playing now.

In 1962 the Detroit Lions went 11-3 and finished 2 games behind the Green Bay Packers who eventually went on to win the Super Bowl that year. That was an amazing season for the Lions because they never trailed by more than seven points at any point in any game during that season, and won seven straight to get into the playoffs. The Lions beat the defending Super Bowl Champions the Packers on Thanksgiving Day 26-14 to keep them from having a truly perfect season, and even though I wasn't born yet, I still like the sound of that stat.

2023 Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are now in their 94th season in the National Football League and the last time they played this good was in their 33rd season when they finished 11-3.

Even though the Lions only had a 9-8 record last season, they started out with a 1-6 record but really turned things around in the back half of the season.

The Detroit Lions kicked off the 2023 season shocking the football world with a win over the defending Super Bowl Champions the Kansas City Chiefs in the season opener 21-20. They have since beaten the Packers on the road at Lambeau Field and are now three games in front of them in the NFC North with a 5-1 record.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell led his team to a huge win on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who are leading the NFC South beating them 20-6.

2023 has been the first time in franchise history that the Detroit Lions have sold out their season tickets but even better than that, they are drawing big crowds on road games and this is something I have never seen in the team's history.

The amount of Lions fans that showed up in Green Bay was insane and you could hear the fans over top of the home team fans I have a feeling it is going to continue on the road and at home.

If the Lions can stay healthy and continue with the current success they are having we may finally see them in the Playoffs and perhaps even win a couple since the last time they won a playoff game was in 1991 against the Dallas Cowboys.
