Detroit Lions Have Shot At The Playoffs But Need Other Teams’ Help
It is crazy to say the Detroit Lions who started the season off 1 and 6 have a shot at making the playoffs, but they need some from some other teams for this to happen.
I am still not used to the sports world referring to the Detroit Lions as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. I've been surprised by how the Lions have dominated other teams offensively and look like a great football team all around. We Lions fans have been burned so many times in the past that I think we are all afraid to believe it's true. Nonetheless, it's happening so let's go with it.
What Detroit Needs To Do To Get to The Playoffs
The Lions never gave up when they were 1 and 6 and it surely has paid off for the team now that they are 6 and 7 and the reality of a possible Wildcard in the NFL playoffs is a thing.
A bulk of what the Lions need to do to secure the playoff spot is win at least three, if not all four of their remaining games the rest of the season. It's not an easy task because 3 of those 4 games are on the road.
The Lions have the New York Jets who are 7-6, then the 5-8 Carolina Panthers, the division rivals the 5-8 Green Bay Packers, and the 3-10 Chicago Bears. The most important two teams on this list are the Packers and Bears since they are in the Lions division. Beating the Jets and Panthers is just as important. The Lions have already beaten the Packers and Bears once but in the NFL anything can happen in the playoff hunt and no opponent is to be taken for granted because we all know anything can happen on any given Sunday.
The Detroit Lions Need Help From Other NFL Teams To Get In The Playoffs
There are 3 teams the Lions need to lose as many games as possible and to come up with a better record than those teams. The 7-5-1 New York Giants, the 7-5-1 Washington Commanders, and the 7-6 Seattle Seahawks.
The real kicker is the tie that happened between the Giants and Commanders because neither team lost the game the Lions don't get the benefit of the tiebreaker over both teams because they beat them both.
The Lions need the Giants, Commanders, and Seahawks to lose at least 2 of their 4 remaining games to get the Wildcard slot in the NFC.
If the Lions can finish 10-7 and the Commanders, Giants and Seahawks do their parts in losing 2 or more games each then Detroit will have the Wildcard and be off to the playoffs.
