Now that Deadpool 2 is officially underway, fans are no-doubt curious as to what Ryan Reynolds and company have planned for the second outing of the character. The stakes are certainly higher with audiences; sure, Deadpool blew audiences and critics alike away, but that script had been percolating for years before it finally saw the light of day. Can the creative team manage to turn around a Deadpool sequel on a more traditional timeline without losing any of the charm of the original? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.

Or, you know. Creep on the production. There’s actually been quite a few new set photos released over the past few days, with the most recent batch coming courtesy of Just Jared (via Heroic Hollywood). These photos seem to suggest that Reynolds’ Wade Wilson is crashing birthday parties, getting caught in the rain, and… going back in time to the ‘80s? Maybe? Hard to know what exactly is happening here, but a few of the photos found their way onto social media, so I’ll let you be the judge:

Normally, set photos are a fun opportunity to sneak a peek at a work still in progress, but the irreverent humor of the Deadpool films does make one wonder. Would Reynolds and company’s commitment to self-referential humor extend to messing with behind-the-scenes photographers? Can we trust what we’re seeing? If I were Reynolds, I’d fly Hugh Jackman out to the set for an afternoon and just have him walk noticeably around the set. People will take their photos, the internet will go into an uproar, and you can laugh yourself to sleep every night knowing you’re playing your audience perfectly. There’s definitely got to be room for some meta-humor in the production itself.

In addition to Reynolds, Deadpool 2 will star Morena Baccarin, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, and T.J. Miller. The film will hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
