New Restaurant Serving Unique Hot Dogs, Homemade Chili Now Open in Holland

A new restaurant serving up gourmet hot dogs topped with homemade mac and cheese, chili, and a whole host of other toppings is now open in West Michigan.

D Dogs (Daya Dogs) first opened its doors at 12719 Riley St Ste. 50 in Holland in early February. The owners say their mission is a tasty variety of hot dogs, from favorites like the Coney Dog and the Chicago Dog to more unusual creations.

D Dogs is owned by husband and wife team Daya and Richard Claypool. Richard tells Wood TV 8 that while a lot of time was spent developing the menu, they really want the community's input. Not only can you create your own dog and wolf it down, you can submit that recipe and some will be picked as a weekly special. If diners really love your creation, it could be added to the permanent menu!

To create your own, pick from a regular or poppy seed bun. Hot dog options are regular all-beef, Coney all-beef, bacon wrap, or no dog at all, just toppings. Speaking of toppings, load up your dog with chili, cheese, grilled onions and peppers, tomato pickle, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and more. Sauces include spicy mustard, buffalo sauce, mayo, BBQ, thousand island, hot sauce, siracha, and more. Want Doritos on your dog? Why not? They sell chips there too!

Or choose from a specialty dog on the menu like:

• The Dirty Dog - grilled onion and peppers, spicy mustard
• Frenchie - bacon rolled dog, grilled onion and peppers, spicy mustard
• German - pickle, kraut, mustard
• Weiner Dog - chili, mac and cheese

These gourmet dogs start at $3.25.

One of the specials D Dog has featured is the Reuben Dog: a grilled all beef hot dog topped with thousand island sauce, sauerkraut, cheese, shredded pickles or spear, and smoked pastrami on a steamed bun.

Another special is the MeX Dog: bacon with cream cheese sauce-lightly seasoned with garlic and onion powder, avocados, tomatoes and hot sauce.

In addition to the homemade chili and mac and cheese, the menu includes a chili mac combo, meatballs, sausage bites, potato salad, and macaroni salad.
