With the delta variant of COVID-19 causing increases in COVID cases all across West Michigan, it's not a bad idea to know your risk of catching it when you go out.

A group of volunteers built an online COVID risk assessment tool that lets you put in different scenarios to determine your risk level for catching COVID-19 in your area.  It's called the microCOVID Project and it is a tool that anyone can use to determine their risk of catching COVID-19 when doing different activities.

You provide information like what state and county you live in and what activity you are doing.  You can choose between things like grocery shopping with or without a mask, visiting with friends, or even a one night stand.  The tool will also allow you to build your own scenario to determine your COVID risk level.

The microCOVID project developed a system to quantify the risk of catching COVID-19 and based on that system you can determine your risk. Here's what they have to say about their system: "We created the concept of the "microcovid" as a new quantitative unit for risk. One microCOVID is a one-in-a-million chance of getting COVID."

With the tool, you can also develop a "risk budget" of how much risk you are willing to take each week, month, or year.

Check out your risk level right now at microCOVID.org.
