Police are warning West Michigan residents to be on the lookout for a scam targeting the elderly.

Fox 17 reports that police are looking for three men who posed as contractors to gain entry to the home of a Holland Township couple in their 90s.

The incident took place Thursday afternoon on Paw Paw Drive near 104th Avenue. The male resident was lured outside by a man who claimed he wanted to do some work on their home's foundation.

A second suspect went inside and unlocked the front door and was witnessed by the wife who was inside the home.

Police believe the suspects planned to return later to rob the home.

Alarmed, the homeowners asked the men to leave before they called the police. The three potential thieves then left without incident, driving an unmarked white pick up truck.

GRPD warn of a similar scam taking place in Grand Rapids.
