Popular Mediterranean Chain Cava Finally Coming to Grand Rapids

Cava is coming to GR! I remember learning about the fast-casual Mediterranean chain almost exactly a year ago when the first Cava opened up in Michigan. First it was Canton, then Detroit, then Novi... I was tapping my fingers wondering if we'd ever get any over here in West Michigan.

Well, that time has come!

Where Cava Is Opening in Grand Rapids

Crain’s Grand Rapids is reporting a new Cava location is planned for Grand Rapids at 3503 28th St. SE at the Shops at Centerpoint.

That’s one of my favorite places to shop and grab a bite, so I’m excited!

The restaurant will feature a free-standing drive-thru. According to Crain’s, development is underway, but no opening date has been announced yet.

If you’re not familiar, Cava started back in 2006 as a full-service Mediterranean restaurant in Rockville, Maryland. It was founded by childhood friends Ike Grigoropoulos, Dimitri Moshovitis, and Ted Xenohristos.

A few years later, they teamed up with Brett Schulman to take the concept fast-casual in 2010, turning it into the “assembly-line” style chain, similar to Chipotle and Subway. Today, there are more than 470 locations nationwide.

What's on the Menu at Cava

Cava is known for its customizable Mediterranean setup where you build your own bowl, salad, or pita wrap. You start with a base like greens, grains, or a pita, then layer on proteins like chicken, lamb meatballs, or falafel.

From there it’s all about the toppings and dips. People are obsessed with things like their Crazy Feta, classic hummus, tzatziki, roasted vegetables, and their spicy harissa-style sauces.
