New Mexican Restaurant Opens in Grand Rapids Uptown Neighborhood
After four years in business, a Grand Rapids restaurant has a new name and menu.
Cantina Las Amigos Opens in Place of Danzón Cubano in Grand Rapids
Danzón Cubano first opened at 1 Carlton Ave. SE in Grand Rapids' Uptown neighborhood in 2018. The restaurant served Cuban dishes with a blend of Native American, Spanish, African, and Caribbean influences.
At some point there was a change in ownership, and now, even more changes!
A new, authentic Mexican restaurant, Cantina Los Amigos, is now open at 1 Carlton Ave. SE.
The owners shared in a post to Facebook,
We reorganized, renamed, and rebranded to highlight our Mexican heritage...Our family is excited to share handmade tortillas, mouthwatering salsas, and our famous creamy artisanal Mole with those in our community.
Cantina Los Amigos offers indoor dining, and patio for outdoor seating, plus live music on the weekends. They also say they'll be holding upcoming cooking classes. Follow Cantina Las Amigos on Facebook for updates.
What Kind Of Food Can You Get at Cantina Las Amigas?
According to Grand Rapids Business Journal, Cantina Las Amigas serves food passed down through the generations of the three owners’ Mexican families, including:
- Edgar Vazquez from Durango, Mexico
- Andres Lopez, from Michoacań, Mexico
- Joel Vargas, from Jalisco, Mexic
The menu includes small plates like Elote, Flautas, Empanadas, Stuffed Plantains, Chips and Queso Fundido.
You'll find a variety of tacos, such as Al Pastor, Birria, and Chorizo.
Entrees include Burritos, Enchiladas, Tortas, and Chimichangas.
They also still carry a favorite from the previous restaurant, the Cubano Sandwich.
Cantina Las Amigas serves a variety of margaritas, cocktails, beer, and soft drinks.

Cantina Las Amigos is open Monday through Thursday 4p.m. to 9p.m., Friday and Saturday 11a.m. to 10p.m., and Sunday 11a.m. to 7p.m.
