‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Picked Up by NBC After Being Canceled by Fox
Just one day after being cancelled by Fox, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has found a new home on the network that originally passed on it. On Friday night (May 11), NBC announced it would be picking up the Andy Samberg-led comedy for its sixth season, Variety reports
Created by Mike Schur, NBC initially turned down the series, even though Schur had worked on some of NBC's biggest hits such as The Office and Parks and Recreation. "Ever since we sold this show to Fox I've regretted letting it get away, and it's high time it came back to its rightful home," said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt.
"Mike Schur, Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we're all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup," his statement continued. "I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!"
On Twitter, the cast of the show celebrated the news, posting gifs from the series. "Brooklyn99 IS COMING BACK FOR SEASON 6 YOU GUYS ON NBC!!!!! You did this!! You got loud and you were heard and you saved our show!! Thank you!! Thank you to NBC!! NINE NINE!!!!!" actress Melissa Fumero tweeted.
The season five finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air on May 20 on Fox. A date for the start of season six on NBC has yet to be revealed but the season will consist of 13 episodes.
