One of Michigan's premier biking and hiking trails was darkened by a gruesome discovery early Friday.

Details Are Sketchy On Friday Morning Find

So far, the only details we know is that the body was discovered by Big Rapids Public Safety officers on the popular nature trail at 1:30am Friday morning, June 3. The body was described as being an "unidentified white woman", but no age range was given.

The nearest cross street to the body was Colburn Avenue. The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park runs northwest and southeast through the city limits of Big Rapids, which is in Mecosta County north of Grand Rapids.

The Big Rapids Police Say There Is No Threat To Public Safety

While no cause of death was given, the Big Rapids Police have indicated in a press release that there is no present threat to the public as a result of the find. This may indicate that they feel the death was not a homicide, but that is unclear at this point.

The White Pine Trail State Park is a linear trail that runs from Comstock Park just north of Grand Rapids, to Cadillac. It is 92 miles long and extremely popular with cyclists and day walkers along its length. While the DNR maintains the trail, it is governed by the individual communities it runs through.
