For those who've followed Black Stone Cherry's career, their bluesier side has been more pronounced in recent years. That trend continues with a second volume of their Black to Blues EP, which is now on track for a Nov. 1 street date.

Black to Blues, Vol. 1 helped to set the tone for the band's Family Tree album, and with the group now in between albums yet again, they decided they enjoyed their previous EP so much that they wanted to salute a whole new batch of blues covers.

The group already released a video for their take on Robert Johnson's "Me and the Devil Blues," stating, “We chose this song because we have such an appreciation for Robert Johnson and his music. It was so simple, direct, and eerie in a way that just resonates with the listener. Since Robert’s music was guitar and vocal, we decided to totally write new music and lay his words on top of it. All of the music was written literally on the spot while recording in the studio! We are very proud of how this track came out!” Check out the clip below.

Speaking about the second volume of songs, singer Chris Robertson says, “We could have never dreamed of the reaction we got from Black to Blues. It was amazing to have such a positive reaction to our take on some of our biggest influences in music. Now we are back for round two and we have added our great friend Yates Mckendree on organ/keys and he also makes an appearance on guitar! We kept a couple artists in the line-up from last time and introduced a few others into the mix as well! We can’t wait for everyone to hear and feel how much fun we had recording this project!!”

On this new EP, the group takes on blues favorites from Freddie King and Howlin' Wolf, with guitarist Ben Wells stating, “Those are some of our absolute favorites. We always identify with those guys ‘cause they had grooves and riffs like we would put in our tunes. So we are naturally drawn to that.” They also perform classic cuts from Otis Rush, Elmore James and Son House. Check out the artwork and track listing for Black to Blues, Vol. 2 below.
