I am a big fan of cryptids and have always been one. It could stem from being a Scooby-Doo kid, but it's most likely just that it's more fun to believe they're real than to shoot down the possibility. Think about how much better life was when you still believed in Santa Claus.

Some of my favorites are the Loch Ness Monster, the Michigan Dogman, and ghosts; however, none come close to the most famous cryptid.

The Sasquatch, a.k.a. Bigfoot, is the tall, hairy man known for roaming forests who somehow never looks clear on camera. For years, reports of this big-footed creature have flooded in from around the country, leading to confusion about whether there are multiple Bigfoots or just one tall dude who knows how to get around.

The iconic Sasquatch pose was made famous by the Patterson-Gimlin footage. Bob Gimlin and Roger Patterson allegedly filmed the Sasquatch, now called Patty, walking in Northern California on the banks of Bluff Creek. It is unknown whether this footage was part of a hoax, but it has since galvanized an entire community of believers in Bigfoot.

West Michigan Bigfoot Sightings

A father and son were fishing in a swamp in Southeast Michigan earlier this week near Plum Creek when they reportedly witnessed what they described as a "big heavy animal" the size of a bear but looking like a gorilla. The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization deemed the sighting of Bigfoot a Class A sighting, meaning it is considered a very credible Bigfoot encounter.

However, this was on the state's east side, which raises the question: Have there been any Bigfoot sightings in West Michigan?
