As part of ArtPrize 2021, the public will have a direct say in who gets a share of the $250,000 in prize money. In past ArtPrize events, where the West Michigan public and visitors would vote, the votes would be used to narrow down choices for expert jurors to then pick winners.

Announced this afternoon, the changes include:

🌟A new format that shifts away from the traditional public vote and will allow every visitor to award prizes to and interact directly with artists through the ArtPrize app
🌟A new auction platform to help ArtPrize 2021 artists find buyers for their work, backed by a marketing push and education campaign to encourage visitors to buy your entries
🌟$200,000 in grants to fund a stunning outdoor exhibition featuring work by artists from underrepresented communities
🌟Enhanced digital map to ease wayfinding throughout downtown Grand Rapids

In it's return after a two year layoff due to restructuring and Covid restrictions, ArtPrize will also introduce an auction style listing in the app that will allow the general public to connect with the artists directly and even purchase artwork featured in the event. While the event will still have jurors handing out awards and grants, the bulk of prize money will be allotted to the general public vote. The app also promises better integration with the venues and neighborhoods in Grand Rapids to encourage visits throughout the city.

Artists interested in being part of this year's event have until June 10th to register with Artprize. ArtPrize will return to Grand Rapids from September 16-October 3, 2021 featuring over 130 venues and more than 1000 entries.
