How You Can Help Grand Rapids Set A World Record

I have a love-hate relationship with world records. Seeing a world record set is exciting, like watching an Olympic athlete break an all-time record held by the best of the best for years. But then there are also people who set world records for strange, hyper-specific talents like "most eggs in cups blown upside down in one minute" or "most matches shoved up the nostril," and you have to question whether it's really worth celebrating.

The City of Grand Rapids is looking to set a world record that will hopefully fall into the first category, and it can't be done without you. You can help set a record, and all you need to do is attend the free ArtPrize closing ceremony.

ArtPrize World Record Attempt For Largest Fashion Show Attendance

ArtPrize, the annual art competition that turns Grand Rapids into a city-wide exhibit, officially kicks off on September 18th and runs through October 3rd. During the closing ceremony held at the Acrisure Amphitheater, the winners will be announced, a drone show will take place, and a fashion show featuring "couture looks from RC Caylan Atelier," alongside live ballet, symphony, and opera, will bring ArtPrize to a close.

This fashion show is the source of the world record attempt. ArtPrize is looking to beat the current record for the largest fashion show attendance, currently 3131 people at a fashion show in India in 2025. Guinness World Records representatives will be on-site to verify the total attendance. Tickets to attend are free and available HERE.

With the amphitheater's capacity of 12,000 people, even a quarter of the amphitheater attending will set a record. Artprize has a history of setting world records; you can view some of them below.
