According to the information supplied by QuoteWizard, Grand Rapids is the 10th best driving city in the country. Detroit also showed up in the top ten rankings as the 7th best driving city.

The study of 70 of the nation's largest cities shows Grand Rapids drivers ranked near the bottom in nearly all categories of 'unsafe' driving behavior:

  • Accident Rate: 64 out of 70
  • DUI Rank: 47 out of 70
  • Speeding Rank: 55 out of 70
  • Citation Rate: 53 out of 70

Although anyone who's taken a road trip from West Michigan to Detroit may disagree, the methodology of the study seems legit:

The QuoteWizard research team evaluated driver quality from the 70 largest cities in America. We analyzed 2020 data from millions of insurance quotes from drivers in the 70 cities using QuoteWizard.com.

We used a composite ranking system to rank each city for their rate of incidents. Incidents include accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs and citations. Cities considered the worst drivers had the highest rates of incidents among drivers.

The safest driving cities are:

  1. Birmingham, AL
  2. St. Louis, MO
  3. Little Riock, AR
  4. New Orleans, LA
  5. Memphis, TN

As far as the most unsafe drivers go, here are the worst drivers:

    1. Omaha, NE
    2. Riverside, CA
    3. Bakersfield, CA
    4. Columbus, OH
    5. Richmond, VA

So next time you see someone drifting in your lane on 131 or blowing another stoplight on 28th street, remember, these are allegedly some of the best drivers in the country. So maybe don't forget to buckle up.
