The famed poet T.S. Eliot wrote those famous words 'April is the cruelest month'. This year, it's truth. We're on the route to the coldest April ever.

A year ago it was close to 80 degrees in lower Michigan. Today, we're very happy it will hit an average 57. Why? Because it's been fricking COLD. The coldest in 143 years.

"If April ended tomorrow, it would be the second-coldest on record," Trent Frey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service told the Detroit News.

The last winter this cold? 1874. We were still celebrating our Civil War victory.

The down side is I don't have anymore excuses not to do my yardwork. And my yard needs a lot of work.

I'll leave you with this photo from Calumet in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where their high school track team is preparing for the spring season. It could have been worse.
