Despite some noise complaints from residents around Grand Rapids, the Acrisure Amphitheater has largely exceeded expectations, and people are beyond excited for this summer's lineup. The debut season of the amphitheater has quite a bit of range, from soul acts to hard rock to comedians.

But today, the Acrisure Amphitheater has announced a new show, and it is the most diverse offering yet: have a picnic, and watch Star Wars while the Grand Rapids Symphony performs the score live. This is a unique experience for multiple reasons, so let's get into it.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert

The Grand Rapids Symphony's (GRS)acclaimed Picnic Pops summer series returned last year after a hiatus, but instead of returning to Millennium Park, Picnic Pops has a new location: the Acrisure Amphitheater. Originally, the only concert the GRS performed was at the amphitheater's 4th of July festivities.

But today's surprise announcement that Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert would be taking place on July 23rd marks their second show. Tickets go on sale on June 4th.

What Makes This Concert So Unique

Not only is this the first event at the Acrisure Amphitheater to place such emphasis on the on-stage screens, with families invited to watch a movie from lawn, but it also shows that Picnic Pops' special agreement with the Amphitheater regarding outside food and drink is not a one-time deal for the 4th of July celebration.

Per the Picnic Pop webpage:

Due to a special agreement with the Acrisure Amphitheater, Grand Rapids Symphony patrons WILL be able to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverage to the Picnic Pops concerts.

These are the only events where food and drinks can be brought into the amphitheater, putting an emphasis on the "family friendly" aspect of the concert.

This event highlights the range of events the amphitheater can host, beyond just concerts and comedy shows. It's also the first event to be added to the lineup post-announcement.
