A New Rock Climbing Facility Is Coming to West Michigan

A new rock climbing gym with over 5000 square feet of climbing terrain will open in West Michigan.

Indoor Rock Climbing

If you are unfamiliar with indoor rock climbing, it's a sport where people climb artificial walls designed to mimic the experience of climbing rocks outdoors.

Specialized gyms called climbing gyms allow you to learn climbing techniques while wearing safety equipment on textured walls with various holds and angles to create different levels of difficulty, from beginner to expert. Kids to adults can learn the sport of climbing safely while getting a good workout and having fun with family and friends.

Climbing gyms have been popping up all over Michigan. Below is a list of five climbing gyms in Michigan:

1. Terra Firma Bouldering Co. - 1555 Marshall Ave Se, Grand Rapids
2. Climb Kalamazoo - 136 S Kalamazoo Mall, Kalamazoo
3. ELEV8 - 777 Boyd Ave, Traverse City
4. Dyno Detroit - 3500 Orleans St, Detroit
5. Planet Rock - 82 Aprill Dr C, Ann Arbor

A 6th climbing gym will be added to the list that's being built in West Michigan.

Shift Climbing Will Open in West Michigan in 2025

According to Wood, Shift Climbing is located at 12345 James St. in Holland Township. The 5,100-square-foot facility will also house a cafe and a boutique fitness center.

Shift Climbing aims to give all climbers no matter their level of skill a hospitable and welcoming experience.

Shift Climbing will open sometime in February of 2025.
