A very bad start to Good Friday when a fire broke out close to 5:00 a.m. at Storm's Ahead Kennel in Fruitport Township on Mount Garfield Road,

According to WOOD TV, the fire killed around 30 dogs in Muskegon County Friday morning.

Fruitport Township Director of Public Safety, Brian Micheli, said that the kennel operators have begun contacting the dog owners, many of whom had dropped off their pets because of vacations due to the area schools spring break.

The kennel released a statement on Facebook Friday morning:

Two township fire departments had to respond to the fire including Crockery and Fruitport.

The cause of the fire is unclear and under investigation.
