This is the most optimism that I've seen for the Lions entering a new season in my lifetime.  And it really got started when the Lions beat the hated Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field on the last night of the 2022 season back in January.

It finished off a stretch where the team won eight of their last 10 games and just missed the NFL Playoffs by losing out on a tiebreaker with the Seattle Seahawks.

One thing that can't be disputed is the terrific job that Executive Vice-President and General Manager Brad Holmes (pictured above, left) has done in turning this historically pathetic franchise in the right direction.  And I'm talking about getting the team far under the salary cap.

In Holmes' first season, 2021, the Lions finished the year with $67 million in dead cap money.  They were so snug against the cap (about $1.1 million under) at the end of the year that they almost incurred a penalty for being over the cap.

In 2022, the Lions ended the year with $35 million in dead cap money, and were over $3 million under the cap.  That's big-time improvement in one year.

Now, as we enter the 2023 season, the Lions are more than $20 million UNDER the cap.  And they have under $20 million in dead cap space.  And most of that dead money is with four guys.  D.J. Chark, Michael Brockers, C.J. Moore, and Jeff Okudah.  Brockers was the only salary cap casualty of the off-season.  What a great job by Brad Holmes!!

And don't forget that Halapoulavaati Vaitai and Romeo Okwara signed revised contracts so they wouldn't be cut this off-season.

With all that said, here are the 10 Burning Questions Regarding the Detroit Lions heading into training camp:
