Pontoon boats are usually pretty safe but meant for water use only. A woman lost her life and a man is in critical condition after riding in a pontoon boat that was being pulled on a trailer.

According to WZZM, the accident happened after 11 p.m. in Newaygo County at the intersection of Centerline Road and West Foss Avenue. The vehicle that was pulling the trailer containing the pontoon boat was driving way too fast when it came into the corner and the trailer flipped causing the boat to come crashing off.

There were only two people riding in the pontoon boat that was being trailered.  Unfortunately the White Cloud woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fremont man suffered critical injuries and had to be airlifted to Butterworth Hospital via Aero Med.

The man was still listed in critical condition Sunday, August 12th as of 8 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that was pulling the pontoon boat that contained the passengers was arrested for driving under the influence.

There was no reason given as to why the man and woman were riding in a trailered pontoon boat.

Authorities say the accident is still being investigated.
