Woman Arrested For Selling A Plate Of Food In A Facebook Group
Food. From ice cream to steak, food brings the world together. Pot-lucks, buffets, feasts...these are all ways people can come together in order to just eat food. For one single mother of six, food has become the center of controversy.
Mariza Reulas joined a group on Facebook called 209 Food Spot, which is a group that shares food recipes and sometimes buys and sells meals. Seems harmless, right? Well, in San Joaquin County, CA, it is illegal to buy and sell meals without a permit. What? Since when is buying and selling food illegal? The plot thickens with the fact that roughly a dozen other people also got charged with the crime of two misdemeanors: operating a food facility and for engaging in business without a permit.
The only reason that this story is in the headlines is because Reulas didn't take the plea bargain for three years of probation instead of a year in jail. Reulas has six kids and she is a single mother, so yeah, probation is probably the best option. Is this really that big of a deal? Should this much of a dust-up be made over a bowl of ceviche. Probably not.
