Winter officially arrived today.

This is the day of the winter solstice, when the sun is lowest in the sky and the night is longest.

Sunrise was at 8:11 a.m., sunset is at 5:11 p.m. and the winter solstice is 12:11 p.m. EST.

But you don't need the skies or the National Weather Service's Grand Rapids Office to figure that out.

About two feet of snow has fallen this month, and ice and snow are in the forecast for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
