A pair of late home runs spelled doom to the defending Midwest League champion West Michigan Whitecaps, as they dropped a 6-2 decision to the South Bend Cubs, forcing a deciding game in the best of 3 series.

Tyler Alamo hit a solo home run in the sixth to give the Cubs their first lead of the game at 3-2. An inning later, a massive three run shot by Matt Rose spelled doom for the Caps, who now must win game three Friday night in South Bend to advance to the East Division championship round.

The winner-take-all Game 3 between the Cubs and Whitecaps was to be played at Four Winds Field in South Bend Friday night at 7:35 p.m. That game has been postponed and and will resume Saturday, September 10 at 4:05 p.m. Spenser Watkins is scheduled to get the start against righty Adbert Alzolay for the Cubs.

If the Whitecaps advance to Round 2, tickets can be reserved for the 2016 Midwest League Eastern Division Championship by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting whitecapsbaseball.com.
