Grand Rapids and most all of West Michigan communities have some sort of road construction going on, and while its causes a lot of traffic that no one likes, there are workers everywhere so drivers beware.

First, its not the workers fault they are out on the road, they are just doing their jobs. Secondly, we all know the traffic can be annoying, but please watch out for our road construction teams around the area, they have a dangerous jobs that put them in harms way.

Here is an example of what can happen from Detroit. According to WOOD TV, a construction worker was fatally struck on I-75 in the downtown area.

Michigan State Police say two construction workers were hit by an SUV in a construction zone. One worker suffered minor injuries while the other worker was killed.

The crash investigation had the northbound lanes closed early Thursday.

Unfortunately alcohol may have played a role in this particular crash. Construction zones are dangerous enough so please don't drink and drive to make them even worse.

Identities of both the driver of the SUV and the construction worker that was killed have not yet been released as the crash is still under investigation.

We all know construction can suck and slow the drive to and from work, but construction workers have a job too, so take it easy, obey the signs and keep an eye for our fellow citizens doing their jobs.
