The lifeblood of the music scene is that there are always great new bands to come along and help carry the torch. The past year has generated some amazing new acts that have left their imprint on the past year. So let's take a look at the nominees for Best New Artist, presented by Century Media, at the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards.

After finding varying success in Dredg, Far and Trophy Fire, the trio of Ben Flanagan, Mark Engles and Chris Robyn enjoyed a breakout year with their band Black Map. The group's In Droves album yielded solid cuts like "Run Rabbit Run" and "Ruin" with the possibility of going deeper.

Atlanta five-piece Cover Your Tracks hit their ground running with their industrial metal-leaning album Fever Dream. With tracks like "Spin the Bottle," "Cages" and "Striking Matches," Cover Your Tracks have started to make a name for themselves.

Finding inspiration in nu-metal and delivering an aggressive sound, Ded have emerged from Tempe ready to make their mark. "Anti-Everything" was all over rock radio earlier this year, while the songs "FMFY," "Dead to Me" and "Remember the Enemy" make their Mis.an.thrope album one to dig into.

Gone Is Gone evolved out of a music scoring collaboration between Tony Hajjar and Mike Zarin, and with the additions of Troy Sanders and Troy Van Leeuwen they became a supergroup. Their heavy yet atmospheric debut full-length Echolocation takes you on a journey with tracks like "Sentient," "Gift," "Slow Awakening" and the title cut.

While young in age, Michigan outfit Greta Van Fleet rock like a band way beyond their years. The Black Smoke Rising EP has generated the monster hit "Highway Tune," eliciting many Led Zeppelin comparisons along the way. The Kiszka brothers and their school friend Danny Wagner have generated plenty of buzz as they prepare their debut full-length.

Zeal & Ardor have created one of the year's more unique sounds, as mastermind Manuel Gagneux is blending black metal and African slave spirituals into a rather fascinating and experimental project. Devil Is Fine has garnered raves thanks to songs like "Blood in the River," "Children's Summon" and the title track.
