Vans Warped Tour ’13 Offers Diversity With Hard Rock + Metal Presence

Warped 13
Vans Warped Tour

The traditionally punk-leaning Vans Warped Tour continues to evolve and 2013 features one of the most diverse lineups the festival has ever had.

Tour founder Kevin Lyman stated Thursday night (March 28) during the Vans Warped Tour kickoff press conference in Los Angeles that the diversity the tour has now is more in line with the vision he initially had back when he launched the tour in the mid-’90s.

“Just look at this lineup up here. It’s as diverse as it can get,” Lyman told the throngs of press at the event. “Since 1995, when I booked the first Warped Tour, it wasn’t really known as ‘Punk Rock Summer Camp’ then. It was about diversity and music and artists supporting each other.”

While this year’s traveling festival does have its fair share of rappers, singer/songwriters, punk acts and electronic artists, there’s also more of a hard rock and metal presence on the bill as well, led by Main Stage performers Black Veil Brides and Bring Me the Horizon. The festival will also include August Burns Red, the Black Dahlia Murder, the Used, Billy Talent, While She Sleeps, Memphis May Fire, Sleeping With Sirens, blessthefall, Beware of Darkness, Upon a Burning Body and more.

They join a bill this year that also includes Hawthorne Heights, Goldfinger, Motion City Soundtrack, Chiodos, Reel Big Fish, Story of the Year, Bowling for Soup, MC Lars, Dia Frampton, Charlotte Sometimes, Juliet Simms, Silverstein, Never Shout Never, William Beckett, Gin Wigmore and plenty more. See the full lineup of bands here.

As Lyman stated at the press conference, “I said 10 years ago that if it wasn’t going to be diverse, I wasn’t going to do it and now see where we are. We’re very happy that the kids have embraced it. ”
