This layoff from the usually consistent barrage of pay-per-view UFC events has us here at WGRD looking to the future for what is to come in 2012. As it turns out, the wait for the next month may just be worth it for the year that is in store.Already set for this year were title fights aplenty as well as the newly added flyweight tournament to determine the cream of the crop among the small fighters in the organization.

The UFC is coming off this unlikely hiatus strong, pitting former friends Rashad Evans and Jon Jones in a bout for Jones light heavyweight title. In his brief MMA career, Jones has been a lightning rod among the community with his other-worldly reach and freakish athletic ability. The outside the ring tensions make this a main event not to be missed in April.

Junior dos Santos is preliminarily expected to defend his heavyweight championship in the early summer months as well after dispatching of Cain Velasquez. Not only will there be a fight for the title that night, but the other four top heavyweights in the business are also expected to fight that night.

The current plan is for Anderson "The Spider" Silva to make his return to the octagon following an injury for his homecoming event in Brazil the following month against resident bad guy and trash talker Chael Sonnen.

While those are the only announced main events at this time, Georges St.Pierre is expected to make his return in the early fall to face interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.

The newest addition to the summer slate came directly from Dana White on twitter.

After much speculation on how the now stacked lightweight division was going to proceed, he announced the rematch between new champion Benson Henderson and former champion Frankie Edgar for sometime this summer to relive their instantly classic battle which we discussed here

Catch your breath now while you can, fight fans, because after this little break, the UFC is shaping up for a massive year!
