Police responded to several people injured in a shooting Tuesday night at Muskegon Heights Academy High School.

Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph Thomas Jr. told reporters that authorities were aware of a group of four people planning to cause trouble at the basketball game between Muskegon Heights and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills. Police were at the game to keep those individuals from entering the basketball game, and those individuals then went to to a parking lot by the football field.  Four people were shot in that parking lot.

One of the individuals refused to drop his weapon and turned the weapon toward a deputy. The deputy then "did what he was trained to do."

Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross tweeted late Tuesday night that there would be no school throughout the Muskegon Heights district on Wednesday.

The condition of the two students who were shot are unknown at this time.
