Police are investigating a shooting Thursday afternoon on Grand Rapids' northeast side.

Wood TV 8 reports that two people, one of whom is a four-year-old, were shot in a drive-by.  

The incident occurred around 3p.m. near the intersection of Leonard Street NE and Emerald Avenue.

According to police, the target of the shooting was a 17-year-old. The four-year-old was an innocent bystander.

Police believe the victims' injuries are not life threatening.

While police investigate, Leonard is closed  between Emerald and Spring Avenue. People are asked to avoid the area.

UPDATE 5PM:

Grand Rapids Police have released a statement saying a 17-year-old and a four-year-old were shot. It is believed the 17-year old was traveling westbound on Leonard Street and the four-year old was with family members walking on the sidewalk when a several shots were fired from a vehicle in the area.

Both victims are recovering from non- life threatening injuries.

The vehicle is described as a dark colored SUV, which fled the scene.
