The YWCA West Central Michigan has taken to social media to encourage community members "to not stand quietly when you see or hear an affront to the dignity of another human being" following an incident at the Kent County Courthouse last week.

The post, which has been shared more than 3,000 times since Friday, details an incident in which a Spanish-speaking stalking victim, accompanied by a YWCA staff member, was seeking a personal protection order.

The victim and staff member were speaking to each other in Spanish while standing in the lobby of the courthouse when a woman walked up and loudly said, "This is America and we speak English. I can't wait until Trump is in office and sends your ass back."

According to the post, no one stood up to defend them.

Carla Blinkhorn, CEO of the YWCA West Central Michigan, said that she filed a complaint with the courthouse. She also stated that these types of comments have been reported to the YWCA by Muslim and Latino clients frequently recently.
