It seems to be more of a normal thing… lane closures at the drawbridge in Grand Haven. Usually, because something has happened and the bridge is stuck.

Well starting Monday, February 11th, WZZM13 reports that a major project will start to replace the motor drive system of the bridge as well as repair and clean other parts.

WZZM13 says you might see delays on the northbound side of US-31 as crews will close a lane Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm throughout the rest of the month for the repairs.

John Richard, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Grand Region told WZZM13,

“…the work will entail the replacement of the drawbridge’s motor drive system, gear coupling replacement, cleaning and painting of the span lock and tail lock machinery, and other electrical replacements.”

WZZM13 says the ramp to M-104 will stay open and that during winter weather, crews will keep both lanes open.
