This Gears of War Commercial Still Captures Me

When Gears of War came out of the Xbox 360 back in 2006, it was the killer IP for the Xbox 360. It was the reason that I even looked at an Xbox 360.

The graphics and game play alone sold me on the game, I knew that I had to have it.

Before I even played it though, I saw this commercial.

It was unlike the commercials you saw for the previous generation. All it was, was some guy running through a desolate city being chased by alien looking creatures. At the end, you can tell that whomever this guy was, was going to die.

What really captured this commercial though was the song choice.

It was such an 'unusual' choice for a song for a game that looked like it was full of action, but it captured my attention right away.

I wanted to know what happened to this guy. Why was the world destroyed? Who were these aliens? What was going on in this game?

It was the amount of subtlety in the commercial that captured my interest in the game, and I had to own an Xbox 360 to play it.

Good job marketing team on this one.
