According to Philippine news site Inquirer.net, the city councilman from Manila was out with his wife, daughter and another relative in the early hours of January 1st. Dagsa readied his camera to take a photo of the three on a city street when a gunman appeared in frame and shot at Dagsa just as he shot the picture. He was hit in the arm and chest and pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.
