Independent record stores enjoyed another successful Record Store Day this year. The annual event, which was celebrated worldwide April 20, showed that music fans will still come out of the house to buy offerings from their favorite artists.
I don't care how old vinyl supposedly is. I still prefer to listen to a vinyl record over any type of audio format. Vinyl just seems authentic! Even recently, the rise of vinyl is occurring in this generation, and that is awesome. On April 21, we celebrate Record Store day! Support the locals! Disturbed wants to help this grand day, by releasing a vinyl box set of all their records!
Record Store Day has been known to be a time when unlikely collaborations are formed for rare releases. Hell, music in general has produced oddball pairings (Metallica and Lou Reed's Lulu, anyone?). One partnership that has me very intrigued is that of southern metal rockers Mastodon and Canadian singer/songwriter Feist.
The holidays are just around the corner and the retail Armageddon known as Black Friday will be upon us sooner than you think. Shoppers will stuff their faces on Thanksgiving and then wait in line for hours just to get a crappy DVD player for $20. Record Store Day wants you to remember your local record shop on Black Friday and revealed some awesome releases that will be available from artists like Nirvana, All That Remains, The Black Keys and more.
Record Store Day 2011 is tomorrow, April 16, and there are quite a few bad ass merch that you can buy at your local record shop. It seems like every artist nowadays are willing to put out some kind of rare vinyl record for Record Store Day. Check out some of the more noteworthy releases after the jump.
