A Russian jet carrying the Lokomotiv hockey team crashed, claiming the lives of it's passengers. Among them were two Red Wings. Former Red Wings coach Brad McCrimmon and player Ruslan Salei were among the victims. McCrimmon served as assistant coach for last years lineup of the Red Wings and Ruslan Salei played defense for the Wings.

Denver freshman David Makowski, who likely scored the longest shorthanded goal in hockey history. Kevin Genoe, Michigan’s netminder, never saw it coming. No one did.
